Muscle Energy Technique – The How’s and Why’s
Paul believes many sports and sports related injuries can be prevented. “Today amateur and professional sport is far more intense on muscles and joints. Many amateur sports people train and participate for about 12 hours per week and in between return to their day-to-day occupations and lifestyle”, says Paul.
“This is a huge ask of your muscles and joints to switch on and off between sport and day-to-day activities and emphasises the need for a properly designed exercise plan”.
We utilise Muscle Energy Technique (MET) as a proactive means of preventing muscle and joint injury. By proactive we mean to setup an exercise and treatment plan that will treat your existing muscle or joint injuries and work to help prevent future relapses.
Muscle Energy Technique is mainly used by individuals who have a limited range of motion due to back, neck and shoulder pain, scoliosis, sciatica, unsymmetrical legs, hips or arms (for example when one is longer or higher then the other), or to treat chronic muscle pain, stiffness or injury. MET is used to treat the stiffness in these joints and to restore proper biomechanical and physiological function to the joint(s).
Principal Physiotherapist at Balnarring Physiotherapy Paul Rowson specialises in the application of Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and sports physiotherapy to treat muscle and spinal conditions.
